Here is an excellent way to give back to the community you live in

Hopefully you spotted our latest magazine, which is inserted in most of the Faribault County Registers this week.
It is our annual Community Focus magazine. This is where we try and focus on some stories about things which are going on in our Faribault County communities – and giving them more play than just a story in the Register.
Perhaps you remember when we focused on the emergency response personnel in our communities a few years ago? Or a few years ago when we featured stories about businesses and organizations which were turning 150 years old – including a story about the Register being in existence for 150 years.
Earlier this summer, when we learned the Blue Earth Community Foundation was going to have a gala event to celebrate being in existence for 10 years, Register publisher Lori Nauman suggested a feature story on the BECF would be nice in the Community Focus magazine.
I agreed, and added that there is a community foundation in the Wells area, and two school foundations in Faribault County.
So, we decided to do a story on each one of them for the magazine. You can check out the results of our efforts inside this year's Community Focus magazine.
Didn't get one? Stop by the Register office and pick one up, while they last.
There were a couple of reasons why we wanted to feature these foundations in stories in the magazine.
One, they do a tremendous amount of good for the communities they serve.
Two, they seem to be something not everyone knows about. Or, they might have heard the name before, but they really don't have a clue just what exactly these organizations do.
So, we wanted to let you, our readers, know about them, what they do, and how they go about doing it.
Because, all of these foundations do a lot, as you will see in the stories. They do the extra things, the things which make our communities and local schools a little bit better, nicer and more welcoming.
They do things that perhaps the city governments and school districts can't really do themselves with taxpayer funding.
And, they are excellent vehicles for local folks, and those all around the country, to be able to make a totally tax-deductible deduction.
I would urge you to make a donation, of any size you can, to one of these foundations. Maybe you already give to your church, or to other service clubs, or worthy projects in your town. That is great. But just in case you never thought of giving to one of these foundations, talk to someone about them, learn more about them, and then really consider a donation to them.
Because, they are going to put your money to some good use, and it is all going to be used for the betterment of our local Faribault County cities and schools.
An excellent time to do this is coming right up.
Thursday, Nov. 16, has been designated as "Give to the Max Day." It is a day for everyone to consider giving a donation, big or small, to some worthy groups and organizations.
This year, please consider these local foundations featured in the Community Focus magazine.
I will end this column with a quote that is also at the end of the story about the Blue Earth Community Foundation. It was said by Marty Sawyer of Blue Earth.
"When life has blessed you, don't think about increasing your style of living, but instead, think about increasing your style of giving."
Thanks for however you support the community where you live. That support can come in many ways, from volunteering, shopping at home, and helping out where you can.
